One month before the announcement official date we have the ability to check the performance of new processors Core 2 Duo e6320 . It is necessary to say that the first impression was a bit confusing. From one side : increase in performance due to increase cache volume , But from the other side latest E6320 overclocked only to about 3.3 GHz…
For this tests we obtained three identical processors Intel core 2 Duo e6320. First two are related to similar party, but their series numbers were distant , the third belonged to another series. All three processors were produced in Malaysia (SLA4U).
Hard disk – maxtor diamondMax 10 6L200M0, SATA 200 GB;
Cooling system – zalman CNPS9700 LED;
Power unit – OCZ gameXStream GXS700 (700 W).
From the start we note : there was no problems, motherboard correctly identified the new processor.
According to the technical characteristics on Intel site there is no Max Voltage (Max-Vcore) for processors Intel core 2 Duo e6320. But we note here that Intel set the max voltage for core 2 duo to 1.35v.
CPU- Z utility version 1.39 not only erroneously determines CPU voltage, but also for some reason it ceased to track the processor frequency . After checking the author site we did not find any new version. .
Strictly speaking, The authors of different programs in different ways process data for similar processors. The indications of utilities coreTemp 0.95 and SpeedFan 4.32 coincide, TAT usually shows temperature by several degrees above, and RM clock 2.25 is noticeably below .
Lets start with the first processors. For the beginning, after decreasing the multiplier to 6x, We determined the theoretically possible overclock in the system bus , witch was equal in this case to 490 MHz. So we set the multiplier back to the default value 7x , and the final result was 480 MHz FSB with 1.5 v vcore voltage and 54c temperature according to the data Of coreTemp.
Not bad result, but not too impressing. The tests of second processor begun immediately from 490 MHz frequency :-) . the result was normal boot and 58c OCCT utility . We Stop here ! First it was necessary to verify the overclock with the reduced multiplier. With the 6x multiplier this CPU was capable to start windows at 510 MHz FSB frequency , but for stability with the default multiplier it was necessary to decrease FSB by 5 MHz, and to raise vcore voltage to 1.55 v.
However, last processor proved to be even better. In contrast to first two, its default voltage was 1.3375 v , witch is higher than in old Core 2 Duo, but less than in new One. With the reduced multiplier we was able to load windows at 520 MHz FSB frequency , with the default multiplier this last CPU demonstrated a stable work with 515 MHz FSB .
It was necessary to increase vcore voltage in this case to 1.55 v, as in the second processor, but temperature did not rise above 59c, in contrast to 61.5c in the second. Maybe, the third processor actually proved to be colder.
Lower vcore voltage result in instability, then we decided to try to decrease the voltage FSB termination voltage and NB vCore, after obtaining in this case an unexpected results.
From the first overclock experiments of processors core we know that for successful overclock in system bus we should increase the northern bridge chipset voltage . Asus commando motherboard as many other asus boards , knows how to increase its voltage, ( if in BIOS there where set to auto value ) . And this is the error of many overclockers . They are sure that their processor can overclock to high frequencies without increase in vcore. But here their motherboard already done the job ..:-)
As far as processors Intel core 2 Duo e6320 are concerned, as you understand, a good motherboard, memory, power unit and cooling are the guarantee of successful overclocking.
